Prologue[]
I was sitting in the Ironhead armory fixing a hyper rifle, its revolving laser cores got jammed in a practice match so it almost exploded. Then my helmet began vibrating. I snapped it on and pressed the receive button.
"Yello?"
"Maurader! It's Clarisse"
Me and Clarisse had be rivals sence day one but after my first summer teaching classes she had become far more pleasent. She was less arrogant and careless but she still stuffed kids' heads in the toilets.
"What's up?" I asked
"I heard that the Gods made it official. Now until who knows when is called the Demon Wars?"
"Ya..?"
"I'm in Texas and i need help dealing with some demons"
"Im sure you can deal with it"
"I know that! but even I'm not that stupid"
"Okay i'll be there in an hour"
Chapter 1: GO! GO! GO![]
- There was something about battle that just made me smile inside my helmet. Was it the invigoration, the spirit and courage? I know its not the killing. Who knows why I am fond of battle, but right now I'm just trying to stay alive. I ducked bellow a column of fire and landed against a wood and sand barricade next to Clarisse and her boyfriend Chris, who was the only other one stupid enough to join us on this venture.
"Remember this was your idea" I said to Clarisse as i reloaded my rifle
"How many did you see?" asked Chris
"One spawn and two brigades of fire demons and a squad of earth demons" I replied
"Thats not too bad"
A bullet dinged off the side of the barricade right next to me ear.
"Oh and they have M16's"
"Okay heres the plan. Marauder you rush them, your armor can hold up to anythign they can throw right?" said Clarisse
"Pretty much"
"You rush them and see how long you can stall them, while we go around the flank and plant the bombs inside their outhouse of a base"
"So the strategy class finally got through to you" I said as I vaulted over the barricade.
I looked down my aim and sniped off two demons before ducking under a mound of sand. I looked around the side of the mound to get a better look. The demons had made a line of fire and earth demons who were fireing a mix of bullets and fire. The spawn was sitting behind them looking bored. I Looked down my scope and aimed at the spawn's face. I fired a few rounds, one hitting it in an eye. It gave out a roar before charging through the demon line killing several of it's commrades. It ran in my direction destroying everything under its three legs. I tuck-'n-rolled away from its charge and recoiled with a few shots. When the spawn realized it missed it turned around and tried to bring it's clawed fist on me. I dodged the strike and rolled under its legs and ran up its back. I ran through a forest of horns, trying not to be impaled by a spike. I jumped onto its head and fired straight through its skull. splattering green blood all over my armor.
I flipped off its head and charged the demon line. They were still recovering from their shock, when the spawn trampled them, so i had no trouble getting to them. I rammed into the first demon winding him. Two other demons charged me i jumped at them knocking them to the ground by punching them in the gut. I pulled out my rifle and fired at a few others only killing three. When one charged me a swung my rifle smashing him in the jaw. I crushed another' head and hit another in the gut. After that there were only a few demons left the were unarmed so i dropped my weapons and charged them. I slind between them and swiped-kicked them, I spun back to a fighting postion. I used a downward punch one of them, crushing his skull. The last two jumped back up and squared off at me. the one on the left went for a clawed hook i knocked it away and crossed to his cheek. I felt a one crack so i had just ended his ability to bite at me. As i retracted my cross the other demon ponched over Lefty. He pinned me to the ground and began trying to bite my throat. I grabbed his bottom and top jaw and began opening it as far as i could. I began forcing him off of me and when i was on top of him i broke his jaw and crushed his skull. Lefty was still there and clawed me in the head, thank you helmet he did leave a few scratches in my metat cap. I imployed a body shot and hook and i ended his life with a knee in the face. He fell down twitching.
I gathered my weapons and went into the demon base which was nothing more than a cellar with a some ramparts around it. I switched on my helmet's headlights, it was too dark to see. i have no idea how Clarisse and Chris got down here without a flashlight. I came onto a metal tunnel, with a grated floor and pipeing around the walls. It felt like i was in Alien it sure smelt like it i could smell the breeding pool at the end of the tunnel. I took a few more steps and stopped to gather my thoughts. Clarisse and Chris probibly got caught and are now going to be demon baby lunch. I could run in a get overwhelmed or i could sneak in a snipe off the demons before getting them out. I began walking again and found a two way tunnel. I slipped off my helmet and smelled the air. The tunnel on the right had the aroma of burnt toast and rotting flesh, that was the base's amory and barracks. The one on the left smelled of rotten eggs, compost and a chemical spill, that was the way to the breeding pool. I stepped very quietly and kept my rilfe at the ready. After a few more minutes of total scilence i came into an opening. I was on a small outcropping that hovered over a huge cavern. Out of habit i got onto my belly and leaned over the edge like a sniper. The cavern floor was a hundread feet down. It had a hundred pools of green liquid, the whole floor glowed green. The light bathed the whole place in a erie green light. In the middle of the cavern was an altar that was razed on a ring of stairs. In the middle of the altar was two people tied up and gagged. I looked through my scope to get a better look. It was Clarisse and Chris. No duh.
A form began to rise out of the ooze. It began walking up the steps and onto the altar. I shook off the green slim, reveiling itself. It was a blue skined female with glossy black hair. She had a one peice armored corrset and a mail skirt. As she approched my commrades i pressed a few bottons on my gauntlet and my audio resepters focused on they're postion. She kneeled infront of Clarrise and ripped off her gag.
"Who sent you little godling?" said the demon girl. Her voice was stern but loving.
"We'll never say, you f****** demon" Clarisse spat at the demon's feet. The demon just smiled. She reached out with a clawed hand and grabbed hold of Clarisse's jaw. She leaned in so close she was touching Clarisse's face.
"You will tell me godling. You will tell me what your doing here and who sent you"
"Never"
"In that case, my children are very hungry. Could you help me" She remained clam and loving as she backed into the slime.
As her head disappeared more form began to grow out of the ooze. As they stepped onto the altar they shook off the slime as they're mother did. Each demon looked like a reptilian dog with red scales, a fin on they're neck and alot of teeth. They began to circle Clarisse and Chris. This was probibly the right time to fire. I looked down my scope and picked a demon. I fired. The shot landed poin-blank in the demon's forhead he fell to the ground. I sniped as fast as i could but more kept comming out of the ooze. Clarisse and Chris were trying to get out of they're ropes but they were reinforced. I heard a growl behind me. I rolled over and there were three fire demons with bullets marks on them. They must have been the survivors of me rushing the base. The one in the middle attempted to crush my head with his foot. I rolled away from each strike. He was about to crush my head for sure if i hadent backflipped off the edge of the outcropping.
I was falling straight into the goo. Good thing my armor is insulated to water so i was completely dry, but not alone. I felt a vibration in the sea of green snot. I looked around but didnt see anything. I felt another vibration behind me. I spun around a grabbed a demon dog's head and snapped its spine. I rushed out of the slime and climed onto a small line of stone which sperated the pools. I ran towards the altar. I tried loading my rifle and pistols, but the ooze had clogged the barrels and revolvers. I tried my sword but it was glued into it's sheath as were my daggers and my shield. All i have is my fists. Every second i ran the goo began to harden making it impossible to move. I knocked every demon i passed in the face sending them flying. When i got to the altar i had to but all my strength just to move. As the numbers of demons began to thin i ran to Clarisse and Chris and tried to cut the ropes with my claws, but my hands were glued into fists. I turned around to just dodge a demon dog, who had tried to ponce on me. I punched him in the face and black blood splattered on my hand and i could move my fingers. I didnt have time to figure out how the blood affected the goo, i just needed to get more. I grabbed a demon by the neck, i raised him above me and squezzed his head leaking blood on my figers. As the blood reached my thumb I froze. The goo had hardend completely. I looked around and saw that the demons had stopped comming and stayed in the pools. They're heads just above the slime like crocodiles. The blood on my hand was oozeing very slowly, it felt like it would take forever before it covered enough of my body to move.
A form rose from a pool, it was the demon girl. As she approched me got a better look at her. She was very beautiful, and she seemed very framiliar like I'd known her before. She walked up to me and smiled.
"Oh Marauder, how long has it been? Two or three years I think." She pulled off my helmet which gave me an even better view of her. She was so familiar but i just couldn't remember. "Oh my your still just as handsome as before in the glades"
"Who are you?" I asked
Her expression changed from a smile to a scowl. She slapped me across the face. "How dare you not remember me! You just left me alone and went on your journey! You dont call! You dont write! What do you have to say for yourself?!"
"uh.. sorry. Whats your name again?"
"You still dont remember! just this jog your memory"
She kissed me without warning. It was a really good kiss it almost and i say almost could put Thalia to shame. It hit me like a punch.
"Amelia?"
She slapped me again. "I dont remember you being this stupid"
I turned to look at Clarisse and Chris. They looked both shocked and disappointed.
"Marauder, who is this chick?!" asked Clarisse
Amelia swayed toward Clarisse with the same grace she had years ago."Marauder and I were great together. Then you demigods had to have your war and as usual he has to be all "its the right thing to do" and he left me"
Clarisse stared at me with a buring glare "you dated a demon, i thought you were the supercommando demon slayer!"
"She wasn't a demon, she was a nymph" I answered. I looked back at Amelia "What happened to you?"
"I was alone" she stomped back at me and slapped me again. The force made me look up to my hand. The demon blood had reached mt elbow. I remained still. Amelia was smart, very smart. That was one of the first things i liked about her. I had to keep her talking so i could get me, Clarisse and Chris out before she made us all demon dinner. "But how did you become this...?"
"This what? dont you like it? Im a demonette now a greater one at that. I get to be in charge of every demon in Texas"
I glaced back to my arm the blood was almost at my shoulder. When it reaches my chest i can fight.
"But why the demons. You know how evil they are"
"Dont you say that! You left me alone in the everglades with all those centaurs. Do you now how many times i was raped by those animals. You left me and i hate you!
The blood had reached my shoulder. "Im so sorry. im sorry i left you. im sorry i didnt come back. But i cant love you anymore"
"What do you mean by that!?"
"I've found someone else" the blood was almost there just another minute. I looked around and saw a tunnel not the one i came out of but atleast it was somewhere.
"Who is she!"
"Thats none of your concern Amelia"
"Why not!"
"This is why" i could move again and i hurled the dead demon body at her sending her into a pool. I ripped the ropes off of Clarisse and Chris.
"Go! Go! Go!" I yelled. When we got half-way to the tunnel the demons got over they're confusion and began to chase us. When one poced out of the sloime i cuaght it a ripped it in half splattering blood on the rest of me, letting me go even faster.
"Clarisse where are the bombs?!"
"They took them"
"Then we need to bring this place down"
"How?" asked Chris
"They might have something in their armory to oblige"
Chapter 2: See ya Babe[]
- When we got into the tunnel I waited for a few demon to get into entrance. I pulled out some mini charges and tossed it at the entrance collapsing it on top of them. One of them was still alive its legs were trapped and it would die of blood loss. As i leaned down to it Clarisse shouted,
"Come on Mortal we don't have the time"
I leaned down next to it and as it stuggled i snapped it's neck ending its pain. I pulled out its body and poured a bit more of its blood on me. I layed it's boody on the ground and gave it a short prayer.
"Even evil deserves respect" I muttered to myself
I booked it down the tunnel. I followed my nose to where the forge would be. When we made a turn a group of demons were infornt of us. I stepped onto the wall and jumped at them. I slammed into them crushng anything vital. I got up and after ne more turn we came into a cavern with two huge matel pillars with pipeing at the top and bottom.
"If this thing goes the whoile place goes" I said
"How? they took all our weapons and the explosives, and your arent powerful enough for this" said Clarisse
I smiled and pulled out my pistols and passed one to each of them.
"Aim at the base and any pressure gadges"
I pulled out my rifle hopeing that the ooze had been cleared and began fireing. After the first pillar began to gurggle we went to the next and began to fire. Went rivets began to fly it was time to go. We ran through as maze of tunnels until we found the tunnel i came in from. We booked it up the stairs, out the cellar and into the small ramparts. As we passed the spawns rotting body the ground began to rumbble. We stopped and looked back at the cellar. The cellar exploded in a columb of steam. Then the ground began to crumble around it and cave in. We booked it across the sand dodging any cracks in the bedrock. After about 125 yards the cracks ended and we looked back to the giant hole with left in the ground. It was about a mile across and 200 feet deep.
"Welcome to the new Grand Canyon, Kids"
"D***" said Chris
I dropped next to a rock and looked up at the bright blue sky. Clarisse and Chris dropped next to another rock and began kissing. After a fw minutes we goit up and headed to the forest where our camp was. by mid afternoon the sun was blazing cooking us in our armor. I held on a bit more, my kelvar underskin had a temperature control. But by 3:30 I was carrying both Clarisse and Chris, who had both passed out fom heat exhaustion. When we got to the forst i dropped them next to a tree. I pulled out a few ration packs and a water bottel and mix it togetyher. I fed them both equal portions. When Clarisse opened her eys she looked at me, confused.
"Where are we?"
"not far from base"
"You carried us?"
"Why wouldent I"
When Chris finally woke up we walked the rest of the way to out camp. It was nothing more than a tent, a campfires and my warpcycle. It was sun down by the time we got there. I sat down in front of the fire and began fixing what damage i got to my gear. Clarrise and Chris went into the tent. I heard a couple noises. I didnt even want to know what they were doing. After i got fed up with the noises, i went for walk, leaving two of the biggest people i have ever met defenceless. The moon was really bright batheing the entire forest in light. As i walked i pulled out a picture of Thalia, my girlfriend. I had barelyt told her i went for a campaign, i have been gone for a week. Which is how long it took to fight out way to the demon base. As i gazed at the picture, A few weeks ago my brother had a kid, and Thalia asked if we could have a kid too. I was really conserned that she didnt realize the gravity of our relationship. Then bamb! something lashed around the picture and pulled it out of my hand. I looked up and there was Amelia. Her left hand had turned into a giant lobster claw and in the other was a barbed whip. She had grabbed the picture with the whip and was studying it. very intently.
"So this is your new girl? When do you plan on breaking her heart"
"Never"
"You say that now, but wait until theres another war"
"Then she'll come with me"
"Just wait you'll see"
I tried to run for it, but she lashed the whip at the ground setting it on fire, cutting me off. I went another way but she did the same thing. I had no choice, i had to fight her. I had left my gear at the camp so i had nothing but my armor. Except my helmet which is now gone. Knowing her, she wouldent drop her weapons. I squared off against her and waited. Knowing her she would make the first move. Which she did. She ignited her whip on fire and lashed at me. I caught it by rapping it around my forearm. It pulled her back sending her flying in the direction of a tree. She reacted fast by bouncing off the tree and ramming into me. We were on the ground, me trying not to get killed, her trying to get her claw around my neck. I managed to get my feet against her and again sent her flying. The whip was still rapped around arm and she used it to send herself back into me. Which left a nice hole in the ground. I needed to get out of here and get Chris and Clarisse back to camp. I needed an idea. As she tried to get her claw around my neck , again i thought of something. I grabbed her claw and began to forced it open. I continued to force it open until she began to loose intest in killing and more into trying to stay alive. I began to get some footing and forced her on her knees. I was inches form her face when i heard a howl.
"My children are coming to help me. Even you cant beat them all"
I couldent beat all of her kids i needed to get away. I forced Amelia down a bit more. I changed the way my hands were holding and pulled her over me sendign her flying in the direction of howls. I booked it back for camp. When i got there I pulled my warpcycle to the tent.
"Clarisse! Chris! get you godling **** out here!"
"what!" yelled Clarisse from inside the tent
"We got demons!" i replied
I heard soem whispers
"Dont have time! Just come on!"I shouted. They stepped out of the tent with beet red faces. Chris was in his underwear and Clarisse only had a blanket. "Oh ome on guys we're on a campaign"
"Sorry" Said Clarisse who didnt sound the least bit apoligetic
"Just get on the warp-cycle"
As they got on i set a couple of hig powered grenades to go off in 30 seconds. As i got on i saw Amelia come out of the bushes with her scaly kids.
"See ya Babe" she said
I pressed the botton as the grenades went off. As we warped i saw Amelia standing in a ball of flame not even twitching. I would defently see her again. The next second we were back at camp near my cabin. The spring air felt good. Clarisse got off, almost losing her blanket.
"Go into the Ironhead cabin, its empty"
"Thanks Marauder"
While they went into the cabin i leaned the warpcycle against my cabin, and went inside. My computer switched on, STACI was staring at me and looked pissed. I jumped onto my bed and began taking off my armor
"Im guessing you already checked the recordings from my armor"
she nodded "who is she"
"On my way to camp i found a cave to make camp in it turns out that it was a way into the Everglades. I camped there for a while and found a nymph named Amelia. And i guess the rest is self-explanitory"
"I wont tell Thalia"
"Thanks Stac"
"Plug your armor in i need to run diagnotics on it"
I obeyed then went to bed.
Chapter 3: Escort Mission?[]
- The next moring i didnt do my usual and skip breakfast. I wanted to talk to my friends. I sat down at the Ironhead table with Brogg, Lily and little Cooper. All my other friends were stuck at there own tables.
"Where have you been for the past week" asked Brogg as he spooned some baby food into Cooper's mouth.
"Campaign" "How was it?"
"Mental"
"So the usual then"
"Yep"
After breakfast i joined Thalia who was reading a book. I walked up behind and kissed her on the neck. She put down the book turned around and scowled
"Where have you been?"
"I was on a Campaign"
"For a whole week?"
"They were tough demons. Im sorry"
"You can make it up over dinner tonight"
"Of corse"
After that i went to the big house to give my report on the battle. I lied to Chiron's face about not knowing who the demonette was.
"Marauder, I have a mission for you"
"Anything Sir"
"Theres a demigod being escorted by a satyr near Ohio. I need you to get them here as soon as possible"
"But sir me and Thalia are....". He raised an eyebrow. it wasent like me to not take a mission. "I'll get it done"
As i got ready the clouds began to come in. Rain began to pour so hard that even the camps borders let some in. I through on a big trench coat over my armor. Like the one Hellboy wears. I only took my pistols and rilfe. It was about noon by the time i was ready. As i pushed my warcycle Thalia came running at me. I thought she would probibly kill me for leaving again. But she ripped off my new helmet, chucked it behind her and kissed me. After we broke lip-contact i spoke.
"I thought you were still mad"
"I am, but atleast this time we get a proper goodbye"
"In that case" i kissed her, she lost her balance so i dipped her. After she broke our imbrace she spoke.
"We're still on for dinner though. So hurry back"
"Then i better get going"
I Hoped onto the warcycle and started up the engine. Thalia retrived my helmet. I kissed her one last time before i slid my hemlet on. I rode up the hills and down to the farm road. I set a small map to appear in the corner of my visor. I followed the map for hours passing thouasnds of miles of country. As i neared by checkpoint rain began to fall even harder. Every breathe i took fogged up my visor. As i drove i thought. It wouldent be the end of the world if me and Thalia had a kid. But its the kid i was worried about. Me always being on campaigns so all the work would be put onto Thalia. I cant let that happen. As i began to lose focus my helmet beeped. I was nearing the checkpoint. About a hunread yards ahead was an old run down farm house with a light on inside. I pulled up next to it and leaned my warpcycle against the wall. I craddled my rilfe and walked to the door. I kicked it open the door and held my rifle at the ready. I looked down my sight to see a 13 year old boy and satyr. Both had crude looking gear and weapons, which were all pointed at me. I lowered my rilfe. They didnt even move. The boy had torn clothes and a crude sword and even cruder armor, he had blonde hair and blue eyes. The Satyr had only a scrap of wood for armor and no clothing. He was using a flint spear
"I mean you no harm" i said
"Ya right. Not after this week. Ive had enough of monsters" replied the boy
I let the strap hold the rifle. i pulled off my helmet and smiled.
"I promice i will not hurt you"
They lowered their weapons.
"Who are you?" asked the boy
"Im the Marauder, im here to take you to camp"
The satyr smiled he trotted up to me and gave me a hug. He was only as tall my chest. He turned to the kid.
"We're saved, Allan. This guy is the greastest warrior ever"
I gently pushed the satyr off of me.
"If you have anythign you wish to bring go get ready"
"We dont have anything" said the boy
"We cant have that can we" i pulled out one of my pistols and passed it to the kid. "Press the botton on the back to turn it on and squeeze the trigger to fire"
He pointed the gun towards a blank of wood and fired. The red beam splattered over the wood leaving a hole and burn marks.
"Whoa! lazers?"
"Yep" I through my helmet back on. The clock inside my visor said it was already 7:30. I was going to be late for my date with Thalia. "We need to go"
They followed me out of the farm house. We were about to get onto my Warcycle when a fireball came between us and it. I looked up to a small group of giants chargeing us with flaming torches, spears adn flattened cars for sheilds.
"Get behind me!" i yelled to the kid and Satyr
I looked down my rifles aim and sniped down the giants. by the time they reached us their was only one left. I turned around and grabbed my commrades. I pulled them around the wall of fire and behind the farm house for cover.
"Kid this is your kill. Got it? Aim for the head and fire"
""Why me?"
"Its yours, Me and the Satyr will be watching by the motorcycle"
"But why"
"You need to learn how to do this if you want to survive"
I gave the kid the other pistol and dragged the satyr to the warpcycle. We ducked behind the warpcycle and waited for the giant. The kid was alone behind the barn. After a few seconds we heard a yowl. The giant charged through barn and sent the kid flying into a tree. He fell down through the branches and landed on his butt. He recovered quicly enough to dodge the giants spear. which went straight through the tree. The kid rolled to the side and began to fire at the giant. He missed his mark and only nicked the giant in the arm. The satyr tugged on my arm.
"What the **** are u doing hes just a kid?!"
"he needs to do this for himself. What would he learn if i just killed the giant myself"
"Hes learnt plenty on his journey"
"And this is his last leason"
I looked back at the kid who was dodging punches from the giant.
"Kid! aim for the head!"
he lifted the pistol and fired point-blank in the giants forhead. The huge creature collasped. The kid ran over.
"Now do you understand why you needed to kill it and not me" i asked
"Yes Sir"
"Attaboy. Now lets get out of here im already late and my girlfriend is already pissed at me"
We hoped onto the Warpcycle and teleported to the Big house.
"Go in there for your discharge" i said
I rode the warpcycle to my cabin to find Thalia waiting. She looked great except for the nasty look on her face. I leaned my warcycle againts the cabin wall and put my helmet on the seat. I walked up to Thalia expecting her wrath.
"Im so sorry im late Babe. Chiron gave me a mission and...."
she put her index finger over my lips.
"lets just go have dinner after you clean up. Then we'll see if i forgive you"
I rushed into my cabin and got cleaned up as fast as i could. My armor had gotten a small dent so it was really hard to get off. I threw on some of my best clothes straped on my dagger claws and rushed out the door. Thalia was sitting on the Ironhead's porch with Brogg and Lily. She was holding little Cooper in her arms. She rocked the bundle of blankets in her arms. I know she would be a great mom. I stepped onto the porch and asked.
"you ready Thal?"
"Its about time" she handed Cooper of to Lily who gave me a smile.
"Have fun you two" she said
That night me and Thalia went to dinner at a nice resterant, we went to a movie and walked through grand central park. It was a nice night it almost seemed normal. We drove home and i walked Thalia to her cabin. Before she went in i asked.
"am i forgiven?"
"I guess im gonna have to get used to you being on the front lines"
"But ill always be back to do this" i pulled her close to me and kissed. I have to say it was a good kiss. a really good one.
Chapter 4: You Take That Tower[]
- The next few weeks were very routine and very boring. The only interesting thing was campers had begun showing up. There was still very few of us but atleast they all werent little kids. One day I was sitting on the porch of the Ironhead cabin with Thalia on my lap, Brogg was reading a book and Lily was fussing over Cooper.
"Guys i gotta say. this is how life should be" I announced
"Yep" said Thalia as she cuddled closer to me.
Brogg nodded and Lily continued to fuss over the little green baby.
A few campers walked into view. They muttered to each other and one walked up to me.
"Marauder.. Sir.. we were wondering if you could take a us on a field trip"
Thalia got off of me and i walked up to the kid. I leaned on the side of the porch.
"Might i ask where?"
"Chiron says you should take us to the ruins of Hljödhrgrind fort"
That was an old elvish traning base which got overrun a long time ago. It still retained it magic arua so it would be a good place to teach some godlings.
"When will you guys be ready?"
"uhhhhh" the kid turned to his firends and they muttered to eachother "about an hour"
"Ok. Make sure you guys bring extra weapons and camping gear"
"Yes Sir" the all said in cinq. They ran off. I turned back to my family
"Brogg wanna come?"
he put down the book and looked at Lily.
"You can go. I can hold the fort for a day or two"
He got up and kisses Lily and Cooper. I gave Thalia a kiss and we went to the Ironhead Armory. After about an hour of debating on which weapons to take, getting our armor on, STACI getting uploaded into my server we were ready and organizing our ride. Me and Brogg both had big back packs that were magically enhanced to store a near endless amount of stuff. We walked to the big house where a group of about 15 demigods had gathered. AJ was with them. All the kids looked both excited and nervious. They stopped chatting and ranked up. I leaned over to Brogg and wispered.
"I like these kids" I strode up and down the line. "Kids we're going to the ruins of Hljödhrgrind fort. We are gonna stay there for two days. Sound Good?!"
"Yes Sir!"
"Good. any questions?"
A taller girl with black hair raised her hand.
"Yes?"
"How are we getting there sir?"
I smiled at the question. I pressed a botton on my gauntlet. Within a minute of silence a huge boom echoed from over the sky. A black dot came out of the sky and landed behind me. It was a dropship i had designed for my cyclops friends. The kids all stood in shock. As Brogg began organizing the kids i went over and looked in the cockpit. It was empty. I guess i would be flying.
After getting loaded up and ready, we were off. I set up the auto-pilot and took a nap. i dreamt about Thalia. It had barely been an hour and i already missed her. She was right, my missions had been getting in the way of our relationship. Ill make it up to her. When i woke up we were about a half a clik from the landing zone. I looked down from the cockpit and saw a clearing in the a forest. About a mile from the clearing i saw a stone power erupting from the tree canopy. After we landed and unloaded the gear we began marching the kids to the ruins.
When we got there we entered a clearing. In the middle of the clearing were broken down stone walls sprawling out in every direction. Towers sprung up all over the place. Vines and weeds covered everything and there were broken statues all over the place.
We marched to the center of the ruins, which was a stone village in a walled clearing and a huge tower coming out of one of the buildings. By the time we got camp set up it was dusk. We set up a big campfire, like the one at camp and just told stories and sang. We all passed put in our sleeping bags under the stars
The next morning after breakfast Brogg took half of the campers around the ruins, teaching them about the history of this place and how it can help us today. I took the other half and taught them how to use some of the advanced weapons we took with us. I started with the Furie 219 Assule Rifle, then the Sphinx 45 Machine Gun, i did a few more and ended off with the Phobos 90 shotgun. All they're jaws dropped as i pulled out each weapon.
as i loaded it with live ammo i spoke "this shotgun uses motifide shells with celestial bronze shots. It can rip through armor and kills monsters in tight locations". I aimed it at a rock, which i had been useing for a target, i fired and the shots broke the rock in half. Then one of the campers raised his hand
"How come we dont use guns at camp?"
I knew the answer to that. "Its because your already trained in greek combat and... well chiron dosent want you guys getting too modern. i respect him above anyone else but thats the only time i dont fully believe in his judgement"
"Could u teach us?" asked the kid
I had usually only taught the best of the best demigods in advanced fields of combat. Not basic training. "if you guys want to it will be hard. ill be using a mix of training from around the world... speztnaz... israle commandos... french forgien legion.. it'll be very hard"
They began too look nervous but about 5 kids stood up and all agreed to the training. Then Brogg and the rest of the campers came running. Thay looked terrified. Brogg run up to me and spoke.
"We got a problem... a BIG problem"
I instantly felt nervous. i gulp "what problem?"
"We have a large army of Demons heading this way... almost 400 units"
my heart sank. we had mostly really young campers with us. We had to get them home. "ill call in the dropship. it'll land here and we'll evac"
"We cant... their coming from that direction and they are eveloping the ruins"
"ahhh crude... we'll have to hold out until they move on... if they move on"
"Im afraid so brother..."
"How much time do we have until they get to this position?" i asked
"I would say about 30-45 mintues"
I thought fast and supressed my fear. not for my own life.. never ever for myself. I held it together to i could save these kids. I turned to face all of them and spoke.
"We'll hold out here aslong as we can. We will get out of here. i promice you"
The campers bgan packing up their thigns and getting ready for battle. As i loaded my rifle i realized we had a huge tower right next to us. I stood up and shouted orders to begin fortifiing the tower and building. We loaded all our supplies into a closet in the house. We split the campers in half. Older campers and Brogg stayed in the house and gaurded the tower from the ground. The younger ones and me were in the tower. i had customized a few of the weapons we brought into turrets. I hotwired the lazer guns to power boxes so all you had to do is aim and pull the trigger. The five demigods who wanted to learn modern weapons stayed with me and i gave them long range weapons and quickly showed them how to fire.
After we finished we heard drums. They were here.
