Amaranta's POV[]

I rolled my eyes. "No, Grace, it's Juno"

Of course I'd known Devon was there the whole time. He was dead awful at stealth. I hadn't had time to call him out before, though-combining magic and mechanics was a delicate practice.

"When- when did you get back? How long are you staying? Are your parents here? When-"

"Whoa! Give yourself a chance to breathe!" I said, laughing.

Devon's face reddened, "Sorry, it's just I- we missed you."

For some reason I smiled at his misuse of pronouns. "Well, I just got back about an hour ago. My parents are here, with Sammy, they're back up at the Camp. I wanted to come up here first, though. And-" I looked at the ground. "We're only staying the day."

Stupid gods, I thought, with their stupid overly-complicated curses on people who don't even deserve it.

Almost three thousand years ago, my mother, Calypso, had been cursed to remain eternally on the island that was her home- Ogygia. It was, and still is now, if not more so, thanks to my father, a very very nice place. But she didn't even do anything wrong, and she should be able to leave. My father thought the same thing, back when he first met her, and so even though he initially had to leave, he came back. And then the next time he left, he took her with him.

As you can imagine, the gods weren't very happy with this. Heck, the Fates weren't happy with this. They didn't appreciate their perfect little pattern of breaking my mother's heart being interrupted. So after everyone was finished saving the world and stuff, they demanded she return. And since it wasn't really the best idea to cross people who could eliminate the entire population of the world with a few good pairs of scissors, she did. But this time, my father stayed with her. Well, sort of. Because now they knew that it was possible to leave. So whenever there were other, more interesting things for the immortals to pay attention to, they came back out to Camp, as well as lots of other places in the modern world my mother had yet to see. After I was born, though, people started to pay more attention. Even more so with my younger brother Sammy.

I hadn't been in the outside world for three years.

"Well, I was about to go back up to camp anyway," Devon said on a happier note. "Come with me?"

I smiled and shrugged. "Sure"

We left the bunker, heading back towards the camp.
