Chapter 5
I Cause An Earthquake
I decided to pull over in Chicago. I really needed to talk to Chiron. We went to the nearest water fountain, and made a fine mist out of the water. I put the drachma into the mist and said what Megan had told me earlier in the year.
“Oh Iris, goddess of the rainbow, accept my offering.” I recited. The drachma disappeared. This was working. “Show me Chiron at Camp Half-Blood.”
The mist shimmered; it showed a clear image of Chiron and Sydney, daughter of Persephone. They appeared to be having a discussion.
“Chiron,” I said, “Sydney.”
They turned, and saw me. Chiron looked back at Sydney, as if they had been talking about our quest earlier.
“Connor,” He said, “Are yawl in trouble?”
“No,” I said, “Why?”
“Because I had a dream about your quest. You were battling Jacob.” Sydney said.
“Um, yeah we had a little skirmish,” I told her, “But he is here right now.”
I put Jacob in the view of the message. Sydney and Chiron looked relieved. I asked them how we were going to get him to camp.
“Well, I don’t know,” Chiron said, “That is something you need the think of.”
Ok now this was a problem. We had no way to get Jacob to camp, and we couldn’t keep him with us. I had a funny feeling in my gut. I held both of my hands out at my side, then brought them to the sky. I then threw my hands to my side. An earthquake raged in the city of Chicago. My friends and I all fell to the ground to cover ourselves. The Iris message had been disconnected.
When the dust settled, I stood up. Right in front of me was a large hole. My senses were off the charts. They were telling me that this tunnel would lead to Camp Half-Blood.
“Jacob, this is your ticket home.” I said.
“How do you know?” He asked, and I didn’t blame him. I wouldn’t want to be sent into a random hole forever.
“It’s my powers,” I said, “They are telling me, I created that tunnel.”
Jacob looked as if that settled the issue. He bid us farewell and descended into the tunnel. I turned to my friends.
“If any of you want to turn back now,” I said, “You can.”
“No way man,” Joe said.
“Not a chance,” protested Zach.
“Ok,” I said, grinning, “Let’s go to Vegas.”
